Dear 6 Points Sports Academy Community,
We are heartbroken and outraged by the senseless violence against the Black community and recognize that systemic racism in our country is a problem.
At 6 Points each summer, we strive to be our best selves by living out our six core values – teamwork, growth, sportsmanship, leadership, pride and intention. We cannot only live by these values at camp, we must be committed to them throughout the year.
We acknowledge we have tremendous work to do to dismantle the deeply-rooted racism that exists. We know that as a community, we have a moral obligation in the face of injustice to stand up, speak out, and demand change because Black lives matter.
To our campers, camp staff, families, and friends in the Black community: we see you, we hear you, we stand with you.
As an institution, we are committed to self-exploration and ongoing education. Having a growth mindset is critical to us as a community of Jewish athletes and we understand there is urgent work to be done as we strive to be better allies to People of Color in our community.
As we continue to have these important conversations, we encourage you to engage with your friends and family too. We have compiled an incomplete list of resources below and support you in sharing additional educational tools. This journey of self-reflection and pursuit of justice is a marathon, not a sprint.
This Shabbat, we leave you with a teaching from Pirke Avot: it is not on you to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.
