Counselor Team

Aaron Heisen, Pacific Palisades, CA
1st Year Counselor & Assistant Basketball Coach

I just graduated from de Toledo High School and will be starting at the University of Oregon in the fall. I have been playing basketball – at all levels – since I was 5 years old. Although I enjoy playing,  I love coaching even more, which I have been doing for the last four years. The 6 is like a second home to me where I have been able to experience so many extraordinary things and meet so many life-changing people as a camper and as a CIT. I can’t wait to coach our campers along with creating endless memories at the song sessions and bracelet circles. Summer ’19, Let’s Go!

My name is Adar and I just finished my service as a commander in the IDF. I made aliyah with my family in 2006 and I love fitness, sports and working with kids. I’m very excited to be at camp this summer!

 

Amit Avigdor, Kibbutz Nirim, Israel
1st Year Counselor & Assistant Basketball Coach

My name is Amit Avigdor. I am 22 years old and work as an avocado crop farmer on a kibbutz. I graduated from the Academy of Sports Excellence in Wingate in the field of basketball which has been close to my heart since I was 8 years old. Sports and basketball for me is a way of life and it has taught me cooperation, perseverance and sacrifice.

Danielle Lewis, Los Angeles, CA
3rd Year Counselor & Assistant Swim Coach

Hi! I’m Danielle Lewis from Los Angeles. I study Art and Technology, as well as Computer Information Technology, at the University of Oregon. If I’m not in the pool, I’m probably doing ceramics, rock climbing, or laying in the sun. I cannot wait for camp to start so that I can swim every day, eat our delicious camp food, and, especially, see all of my incredible tiger ladies!

 

Danny Capparella, Nashville, TN/Pasadena, CA
1st Year Counselor & Assistant Basketball Coach

Born and raised in Nashville, TN, music and sports have always been a passion of mine. I have played basketball and ran track and field since the age of 5 and have studied classical and bluegrass violin since the age of 3. I moved to Los Angeles for college and graduated from Occidental College in May 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Environmental Policy. I ran Track and Field at Occidental College for all 4 years and ran the 200m and 400m dash. Since graduating I have worked as an Instructional Aide and Music Consultant at Heschel Day School. I play violin and sing backup vocals in a band based in Los Angeles and am excited to be coaching at 6 Points this summer!

I am a student from England, who is very excited to spend their second summer at 6 Points, this summer! I will be the camp photographer so I look forward to capturing some amazing pictures of everyone. I support Arsenal in the English Premier league so I look forward to lots of chat about soccer.

I’m 21 years old and have been playing competitive soccer from ages 9-16 and train and compete as a mid-range runner. Can’t wait to meet everyone and to share my experience as an Israeli athlete!

I was born and raised in Israel in the southern region and therefore I am very attached to the desert. I am a photographer and interviewer – two different worlds that interest me and make me happy. I enjoy music, friends, nature and listen to people. I like to discover new things and I’m ready for an adventure this summer!

I am Mikey Altschul from Los Angeles, California. Throughout my life, I have enjoyed playing sports competitively in various club teams and leagues. The primary sport that I play and my favorite sport is basketball. I love being outdoors and connecting with nature. I am looking forward to a great time this summer!

My name is Miles and I am from proud to be from Sacramento, California. I am entering my senior year at the University of Oregon as a family and human services major. At camp I am looking forward to meeting people from all over the world and making connections that last for many years to come. I am a sports fanatic and also love doing CrossFit.

I grew up in Granada Hills, California going to Temple Ahavat Shalom. I’ve been playing soccer since the age of 3 and recently started coaching kids soccer last year. Phoebe loves working with children and has done so on a regular basis for the last couple years. I loved being a Coach in Training for 6 Points last year and can’t wait to start coaching again this summer.

I’m 23 years old and served as an officer in the IDF and a Commander in the Officer’s Academy. I am a basketball coach and have been playing ball since first grade. I’m really looking forward to meeting you all!

 

 

Taylor Froomin
1st Year Counselor &  Assistant Soccer Coach

My name is Taylor Froomin and I’m from Loomis, CA, which is north of Sacramento. I played competitive soccer for 10 years and I also ran track competitively. I’ll be majoring in math at UCLA this fall, go Bruins! Summers at camp have always been the best part of the year for me because it allows me to combine my love of Judaism and my passion for sports. This will be my sixth summer at 6 Points, and I’m very excited to be a counselor!

Robin Lewis, Irvine, CA
2nd Year Nefesh Coordinator, 1st Session

Robin Lewis, MA, LMFT, is a child and family therapist who has served in a variety of community-based settings as a therapist, program director and clinical manager; including child welfare, residential treatment, domestic violence shelters, private practice, public school districts, and non-profit agencies in the Phoenix area, Los Angeles and Orange counties over the past 22 years.  She is the proud parent of a bright and creative 16-year old son, who will be playing basketball and flag football this summer at camp.  Outside of her current role as Sr. Manager of Clinical Services for a local managed care organization, Robin volunteers as a court-appointed special advocate (CASA) within the foster care system and enjoys hiking, Zumba, and spending time with her son, their mischievous dog, and her three adorable nieces.  This will be Robin’s 8th summer volunteering as part of the support staff for URJ summer camps and her first year at 6 Points Sports.

Sandee Isaacs,
1st Year Nefesh Coordinator, 2nd Session

I am Sandee Isaacs, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and School Counselor at The Swift School in Atlanta, Georgia. I work with children, adolescents and families that have experienced difficulties with ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, OCD, ODD, learning differences, and many other challenges. Originally from Anaheim Hills, California, I am thrilled to be a part of the 6 Points Academy team this summer! I have two teenage boys who have grown up in Atlanta as avid athletes and they love being active and going to camp! I am here to support all campers and staff as they embark on an amazing summer camp journey!

Coach Anthony Naso, Cleveland, OH
3rd Year Head Baseball Coach

I grew up in Amherst, OH and baseball is my life! I studied Psychology and Business Administration while playing baseball at Slippery Rock University of PA. After graduation, I began coaching right away for Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. I then went on to play professionally in the Dutch MLB, in Doredrecht, Holland, the Netherlands. I was the Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator for Clarion University from 2016-2018 and currently an Assistant/Pitching Coach at Chaffey College.

 

Coach Connor McTaggart, Glasgow, Scotland
1st Year Assistant Head Soccer Coach 

From an early age, sport has been a massive part of my life, where I have taken part in a wide range of sports with the most prominent being soccer. Through time I realized the dreams of becoming a professional soccer player were decreasing.  Therefore, I made my decision on an alternative path. Studying Sports Coaching would give me the foundation to have a career in the sports coaching industry. Last summer I completed my third year of coaching soccer camps in America living with different host families whose children were participating in the soccer camps. During the three years I have coached in Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Arizona, Houston among other great locations. I’m also currently employed as soccer coach and work with Achieve More Scotland a charity offering free football training sessions and games across Glasgow for children who live in deprived areas. I’m also involved as a coach at Jordanhill High School where I take the 3rd year pupils for training sessions and games every week as well as coaching at one of the 6 elite soccer academy’s within Scotland. I’m excited to be at camp this summer!

Coach Danny Moscovici, San Pedro, CA
1st Year Head Tennis Coach

I grew up in Israel as a child and moved to the United States when I was 12. I played tennis in Israel and continued playing and competing in the states where I was on varsity on 2 different high school teams and then played 2 more years at Washington State. I finished my studies at Cal State at Dominguez hills in 2001 where I majored in Travel and Recreation. I worked at a tennis club in Palos Verdes right out of college and started coaching high school tennis at Palos Verdes High School where I was the head coach for girls’ and boys’ programs for 15 years. My primary expertise is working with young players towards reaching their tennis goals and in striving towards their fullest potential. Excited to work with all of you this summer! From advance to intermediate to beginner we can all improve as tennis players and human beings!

Coach Ido Heller, Be’er Sheva, Israel
3rd Year Head Swim & Strength/Conditioning Coach

I’m an Israeli native, who loves hiking and the summer time! Prior to moving back to Israel after camp last summer, I lived and studied in Indiana doing sport psychology and counseling. I am passionate about long-distance triathlon/Ironman, I love military-related movies, the show “Friends”, and good mouse chocolate.

 

Coach Jerry Simon, Los Angeles, CA
4th Year Head Basketball Coach

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, attended Marshall High School where we won the LA City Championship and I led the state of California in scoring. I went on to play college basketball at Penn for four years where we played UNC in the NCAA tournament and I was all-Ivy League. Then, I played eleven years of professional basketball in Israel with Galil Elion where we won the Israeli Championship over Maccabi Tel Aviv. During that time he made aliyah, served in the IDF and became fluent in Hebrew. He currently teaches at Marina HS and have coached basketball at the high school, JCC Maccabi, and youth level since he retired from playing.

 

Coach Naveh Menin, Pardes Hana, Israel
1st Year Assistant Head Basketball Coach 

Shalom! I am a teacher for special needs school and a basketball coach in Israel. Besides playing and coaching basketball, I love playing volleyball, going to the beach and listening to music. I worked at our North Carolina site in the past and I cant wait for camp to start here in California!

 

Coach Rafi Nahom, Los Angeles, CA/Ramat Gan, Israel
4th Year Head Soccer Coach & Director of Athletic Mentorship

Born and raised in Israel, soccer has always been a passion for Rafi. Playing soccer since the age of 5, it has always been his most enjoyable hobby and, since he began coaching, his favorite profession as well. After moving to the United States Rafi continued playing soccer throughout high school. After deciding to focus on academics at UCLA, he realized that he wanted to combine his passion for soccer and sports with his academic studies so he transferred to UCSB where he majored in Business Economics and obtained a minor in Sports Management. While at UCSB he began playing soccer again during his sophomore year and became more connected to the Jewish community on campus through his involvement with Hillel and the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. Rafi holds a USSF National “C” Coaching License and currently coaching boys and girls between the ages of 3-17. Rafi is still pursuing his goal of coaching Manchester United and following in the footsteps of his role model, Sir Alex Ferguson.

 

Coach Yaniv Ravins, Revivim, Israel
2nd Year Head Basketball Coach 

I’m married to Nurit and have a new baby daughter, Roni, and we live in kibbutz Revivim. I’m 30 years old, and I’m a Head coach and Head of the Hapoel Ramat Negev basketball program in Israel. I studied at Ben Gurion University. I’m excited to be back at camp this summer!

Marcia Elliot, Lynwood, CA
3rd Year Camp Nurse

I was born in the West Indies, Jamaica and raised in Maryland. I love to watch all sports but enjoy volleyball and archery. I became a nurse because I love working with people. I have been a nurse for 29 extraordinary years. I am enjoying my current position as a very busy K-8 school nurse and look forward to being at camp again this summer!

 

Sam Brodkey, Santa Cruz, CA
3rd Year Athletic Trainer

Sam is the camp athletic trainer, body surfing instructor, and arguably a better soccer player than Coach Rafi. He currently works as an athletic trainer for Elite Physical Therapy in Santa Barbara, practicing sports medicine at some of the local colleges. Sam graduated in 2017 with a Master’s in Athletic Training from the University of Hawaii – Manoa. Originally from Santa Cruz, California, Sam grew up with a passion for surfing, and all things ocean. He’s excited to be back at camp for his third year!

Adam Klein, Southborough, MA
1st Year Assistant Head Counselor

Hello! My name is Adam Klein and I will be working as the assistant counselor at camp this summer! This is my 1st summer at 6 Points Sports and I am incredibly excited to be apart of this community! I am a Jewish educator in Boston and prior to this summer, I worked at 6 Points Sci-Tech East for 3 summers.  My favorite sport is basketball and I’m really looking forward to the summer!

Coach Alli McKain, South Carolina/Los Angeles, CA
4th Year Athletic Director

It’s game time 6 Points California! I am your athletic director, Alli McKain. 6 Points Sports Academy has been my summer home since opening its doors for the very first time in North Carolina in 2010.  I have an extensive background in athletic administration, with experience in a wide variety of sports.  I have spent the last 16 years perfecting my craft in the field of coaching, and currently serve the Los Angeles area with specialized sports programs and skill development clinics, in addition to being an advocate for health and physical education at the state level.  I am passionate about mentoring coaches and providing professional development to educate coaches on best training tactics and specialized instruction that deeply impacts the lives of athletes, both Jewish and non Jewish.

Brian Mitchell, St. Louis, MO/Los Angeles, CA
Camp Director

A spirited St. Louis Cardinals fan, Brian was born and raised in St. Louis, MO.  After spending many summers as a youth at JCC Sports Day Camp, Brian began attending Camp Sabra, the St. Louis JCC’s overnight summer camp. He played basketball, tennis and ran cross country in high school, while also serving as the high school mascot his senior year.

Brian attended Indiana University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism.  After college, Brian served as the Senior Assistant Director of URJ Crane Lake Crane Lake camp for 6 years, before becoming the Director of Congregation Beth Israel of Scottsdale’s Camp Daisy and Harry Stein for 5 wonderful years. Whenever he is not watching sports, Brian is an avid runner who has completed more than 10 half marathons and 1 full marathon.  Besides his love of anything related to St. Louis Cardinals baseball, he follows the University of Missouri Tigers, and is a proud Hooiser, an alum of Indiana University.

Jake Axelbank, Durham, NC
Head Counselor (3rd Year Staff)

Jake is a part time soccer coach, part time photographer and full time adventurer. A love for exploration has taken him to see distant lands and his mother’s cooking has always brought him back. After attending school in Miami, New York City and then Los Angeles, Jake made it back to his hometown in North Carolina and loves the idea of sharing his art with each community that has helped to shape his journey so far. Jake was the Assistant Head Soccer Coach and CIT Director and is excited to be back at camp in this new position!

Joey Angel-Field, Pasadena, CA
2nd Year Director of Jewish Life

Joey is a Rabbinic student at Academy of Jewish Religion-CA, with a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from Cal State Long Beach. He has been playing ultimate since High School, and he has been able to play in South Korea (where he lived for a year) and as part of the world-famous Paganello Beach Tournament in Rimini, Italy. He has kicked around a ball in the streets of Jerusalem, and learned new ways to dance in Tel Aviv. He is so excited to be back at home at Jewish camp, and so excited to join the 6 Points Team! Judaism is a team sport, bringing us together and strengthening us as individuals.

Rachel Slaton, Austin, TX/Los Angeles, CA
Associate Camp Director

Born and raised in Austin, TX competing in everything from gymnastics to basketball to volleyball, I fell in love with sports at the same time that I feel in love with being Jewish. Being an NCAA athlete (Southwestern University, Volleyball) is something I’m deeply proud of, especially our conference championship and NCAA Regional Tournament run my senior year.  I knew I wanted to open a Jewish sports camp after I spent my college summers working at URJ Camps Swig & Newman and spent my time in the off-season coaching club volleyball. I have been coaching for over 13 years now with the goal of cultivating a growth mindset in each athlete with whom I have the honor of working. I have a wonderful husband, Rich, a spunky dog named Daniel Boone, and NEW this summer, Baby Jack! Can’t wait to see y’all at camp, again, this summer!

Stephanie Schwartz, Philadelphia, PA
Program Director (4th Year Faculty/Staff)

Stephanie is excited to be returning to the 6 for her fourth summer and even more excited that she will be at camp for the entire summer as our Program Director. Stephanie grew up going to URJ Camp Harlam and loves being at camp! Stephanie can’t wait to get to know all of our campers on and off the court/field and watch them grow as athletes and make lifelong friendships. When not at camp you can find Stephanie cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, traveling, or behind the lens of her camera.
