Counselors

Counselors/Assistant Coaches: Counselors/Assistant Coaches have three simultaneous roles: Counselor, Coach, and Educator.

Directly responsible for the health, safety, and well-being of all campers in their dorm group, a counselor has day-to-day involvement with each camper as an individual and with the entire group. He or she must see that every individual camper makes friends, becomes acclimated to life at camp, grows towards his or her potential and becomes a part of the total camp community. It is the counselor’s job to be proactive towards situations that may need to be referred to other staff. Counselors live in the dorms with the campers and are present at all times.

Assistant coaches are responsible for improving the athletic skills and abilities of the campers within their respective sport major. They are relied upon by the Head Coaches to help implement coaching plans. Sports majors are opportunities for coaches to use their personal experiences to teach, challenge and empower campers. Assistant coaches also coach and run electives, recreational activities designed for campers to have fun.

Camp Care

Camp Care Coordinator: The Camp Care Coordinator  primary function of supporting Unit Heads and counselors in ensuring campers are being well cared both physically and emotionally.  The ideal candidate should be compassionate, patient and flexible. The position requires an excellent communicator, adept at dealing with campers as well as parents. The Camp Care Coordinator serves a member of the camp Leadership Team, helping shape and enact camp policies and programs.

Unit Heads: Unit Heads must first and foremost be positive Jewish role models who enjoys being with, and providing guidance to, children and staff members. A unit head must have a well-developed sense of responsibility with good judgment and common sense because he/she has a significant impact on each individual’s summer experience. A unit head should be patient, compassionate, and approachable, serving as a mentor for all counselors. The unit head must be a confident decision maker, able to think on their feet and operate in high pressure situations. Listening skills and conflict resolution skills are essential. Dedication to learning and living camp’s Jewish values is paramount to success.

Programs

CIT Director: Directly responsible for the CIT program, the CIT Director develops and runs a CIT curriculum designed to teach CIT’s skills necessary to succeed as a counselor. The CIT Director is responsible for each CIT’s takeaways from the summer; building positive experiences for the CIT’s that teach memorable lessons. The CIT Director has meaningful day-to-day interaction with each CIT. The CIT Director is responsible for communicating information and setting expectations for the entire group. He or she must see that every CIT makes friends, becomes acclimated to life at camp, grows towards his or her potential and becomes a part of the total camp community.

Program Director: The Program Director is directly in charge of special programs and events at camp. These include but are not limited to Opening Ceremonies (first day of camp introduction event), Camp Champs (song and dance competition), Maccabiah (color wars), 5K, and Firefly (last night of camp event). This position requires strong organizational skills and creativity. While these programs happen each session, this position requires a dedication to making each event new and innovative because, for each camper, this might be their first or tenth time experiencing it. Because these events can sometimes come very close together, the Program Director must do well under pressure and be able to practice effective time management. This position allows you to leave a lasting impact on campers and create an experience they will never forget. 

 

Sports

Athletic Director: The Athletic Director must first and foremost be a positive role model who enjoys being with, and providing guidance to children. The Athletic Director leads by example, demonstrating a well-developed sense of responsibility with good judgement and common sense. The Athletic Director must be a confident decision maker, able to think on their feet and operate in high pressure situations. Listening skills and conflict resolution skills are essential. The Athletic Director should have a clear understanding of the mission and vision of camp.

The Athletic Director should be patient, compassionate, and approachable, serving as a mentor for all Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches. The Athletic Director should be able to assess a Head Coach’s effectiveness in developing skills in young athletes. Additionally, it is the expectation that the Athletic Director will see themselves as a member of the greater camp community willing to participate in activities beyond supervising athletics. The Athletic Director must understand the nature of camp life and have the ability to adjust plans accordingly and maintain a level of flexibility. This individual must live on site throughout the duration of the camp season.

Head Coaches: Head Coaches must first and foremost be a positive role model who enjoys being with, and providing guidance to children. A Head coach should possess mastery of his/her respective sport; have an established, successful methodology and be able to assess athlete skill levels, address areas of improvement and establish individual goals for athletes. A Head Coach should be patient, compassionate, and approachable, serving as a mentor for all coaches. A Head Coach should have a clear understanding of the mission and vision of camp. 

Additionally, it is the expectation that a Head Coach will see themselves as a member of the greater camp community willing to participate in activities beyond athletic coaching responsibilities. He or she must see that every athlete makes friends, grows towards his or her potential, and enjoys doing so. As situations do arise, Head Coaches must have the ability to adjust plans accordingly and maintain a level of flexibility.

Jewish

Jewish Life Director: The Jewish Life Director embodies Jewish Sports Camp and is instrumental in helping to establish camp culture, prayer experiences and articulating Jewish Teachable Moments (JTM’s). The Jewish Life Director is the ultimate resource on camp for infusing Judaism into the camp atmosphere. The Jewish Life Director should be patient, compassionate, and approachable, serving as a mentor for all staff. The Jewish Life Director should be able to develop deliberate educational programming that connects campers and staff to our core values.

Song Leader: The song leader will be instrumental in helping to establish camp culture and ruach through music during prayer experiences, song sessions, daily electives and other special events. The song leader should have a deep understanding of the mission and vision of the camp and its goals of creating a seamless integration of Jewish life and learning as it pertains to sports.

Operations

Logistics: Logistics team members play an integral role in the daily operations of camp, serving in a “behind the scenes” capacity to help the camp program run smoothly. A logistics team member must be trustworthy, reliable and punctual. The position requires flexibility to handle various tasks, working independently and part of team.

Office Staff: The office serves as the welcoming face of camp. A smoothly run office translates to a smoothly run camp, with requests from camper parents, staff members, vendors, and many other stakeholders all due replies promptly and professionally. Be prepared to answer the phone, sort the mail, distribute camp supplies and messages, and fulfill a myriad of tasks that come through the office. Office staff members must be computer literate and knowledgeable in using word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs. Individuals should be highly organized and proactive in anticipating camp needs. A sense of humor is a must!

Communications

Social Media & Communications Manager: We strive to provide a constant stream of information to our camp families. This includes photos, videos, blogs, and more, spanning several communications platforms. The social media and communications manager is responsible for curating and maintaining social media content for our camp community. This includes following up with blog writers and posting updates online. This position is also responsible for uploading daily photos. The role requires strong writing abilities and a creative and schedule-oriented mindset.

Videographer: The videographer is a vital role in our camp community. The videographer is responsible for telling the story of camp to parents, grandparents, congregational leaders, donors, alumni, etc. This role is deeply integrated in the 6 Points community – participating in all camp programs and building strong relationships with the campers and fellow staff members. The videographer is responsible for making weekly 10-minute videos set to music, short Opening Day video for each session, and for working with the Camp Directors to produce promotional videos for use throughout the year.

Photographer: The photographer is a vital role in our camp community. The photographer is responsible for telling the story of camp to parents, grandparents, congregational leaders, donors, alumni, etc. This role is deeply integrated in the 6 Points community – participating in all camp programs and building strong relationships with the campers and fellow staff members. The photographer is responsible for organizing their photos for daily uploads, for making weekly 10-minute slideshows set to music, and for working with the Camp Directors to produce and edit photos for promotional use throughout the year.

Medical

Athletic Trainers: Athletic Trainers are responsible for the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries; the maintenance of the health and well-being; and the recuperation and rehabilitation following injury of all campers and staff at 6 Points Sports Academy. The Athletic Trainer works in direct partnership with the camp doctor and nursing staff as a member of the medical team. This individual will report directly to the Camp Director. Additionally, it is the expectation that the Athletic Trainer will see themselves as a member of the greater camp community willing to participate in activities beyond athletic training responsibilities. Must be willing to work as a team player, along with coaches and staff, while understanding the fluid nature of camp life. Must possess the ability to adjust plans while maintaining a high level of flexibility.

Medical Coordinator: The Medical Coordinator plays an integral role in the daily operations of our Health Center. As part of the Medical Team, the Medical Coordinator serves a “behind the scenes” role with the expectation that (s)he will help the Health Center run smoothly. A Medical Coordinator must be trustworthy, reliable, punctual and organized. The position requires flexibility to handle various tasks, working independently and part of a team.
