On Saturday, July 20th the entire camp gathered together for the first ever 6 Points Sports Academy Tikkun Olam 5K. In what we hope will become a tradition here at 6 Points, a 5K is the perfect blend of athleticism and social action, or tikkun olam. As a trial run, camp has offered to make a donation to Make-A-Wish in honor of our amazing athletes. In future summers we hope to organize larger pre-summer fund raising efforts so our campers can increase the impact of our tikkun olam efforts. Often appearing in our morning Jewish Value videos, Make-A-Wish grants wishes (many of them related to sports) to children with life threatening diseases. In addition, Make-A-Wish has a local chapter here in Greensboro, which geographically personalizes our financial donation.
Though mostly organized by the Jewish Life Team and the CITS, the Tikkun Olam 5K would not have been such a success without the help of every single staff member – counselors, coaches, clergy, leadership, and even some of our camp committee members who were visiting this weekend! Every single camper (and many counselors) crossed the finish line – a true demonstration of our amazing community or kehillah. Some proudly walked to show their support for the cause, while others impressively ran with times as fast as 19:03! Our top runner was Olivia Rovin, other divisional winners included Gabi Cheng, Benjamin Estroff, and Lyna Schaffer. Mazal Tov to all participants and thank you for showing both your athleticism and your commitment to tikkun olam!
